Who We Are
L'Arche is an international federation of communities in which people with and without intellectual disabilities work and share life together. L'Arche communities usually consist of homes, workshops and day programs. L'Arche was founded in 1964 by a Canadian living in France named Jean Vanier. He invited two men living with disabilities into his home to live as a family. L'Arche came to Canada in 1969 in Toronto. Today there are 28 L'Arche communities in Canada and 137 communities in 40 countries. The communities, while sharing the same values, are run in different ways according to their context and culture.
